Simple Ways to Keep Your Dog or Cat Happy Every Day

All pet parents have one thing in common to see their pets happy, they want their dogs' tails wagging and their cats purring contentedly. Treats and toys do help in keeping them happy but more importantly it is the little things we do every day with them and for them.

As the humans behind Pupr we have learned a lot about happiness from our own pets Simba, Leo, Oreo, Bourbon, Thea, Lucy, Toby and Alpha. Each one of our pets has a unique personality when it comes to their likes and dislikes about toys and treats and favourite humans, how they react in different scenarios. They taught us rather they are teaching us something new every day and we agree there is no one size fits all approach to keeping pets happy. Each one has their own criteria and how well we understand them is what makes them feel happy and loved.

Spend Quality Time Together 🐾❤️

Dogs and cats don't measure love by how much we spend on them, they measure it by how much time we spend with them. Some of our favourite moments with our pets are the simplest ones. Whether it is a morning cuddle before the day begins, a walk around the neighbourhood, a play session in the garden or having them close by while we work, these everyday moments strengthen the bond we share with them. Most pet parents have their own little rituals with their pets. Some start every morning with a walk and a coffee, while others end the day with a cuddle on the couch. These routines become something our pets look forward to and help them feel secure.

Create a Comfortable Space 🐾❤️

Just like us pets love having a place where they can truly relax. Some of our pets love to stretch out on a soft dog bed while others prefer claiming the cosiest corner of the house. Having a comfortable space to retreat to gives pets a sense of security and helps them rest properly. Whether it is a plush bed, a sunny window perch or a quiet corner away from the household bustle, every pet deserves a space that feels like their own.

Keep Their Minds Busy 🐾❤️

A happy pet is often a mentally stimulated pet. We regularly rotate toys for our pets Simba, Leo, Oreo and Bourbon to keep things interesting. Sometimes we'll hide treats around the house and let them use their noses to find them. Our search experts are Oreo and Simba, they love the challenge of finding hidden toys. It is a simple activity but one that provides enrichment and keeps them engaged. Cats and dogs alike benefit from activities that challenge their minds whether it's puzzle toys, training sessions, interactive games or exploring new environments.

Make Time for Play and Adventure 🐾❤️

Exercise keeps pets healthy and helps them feel fulfilled. One thing we have learned from having multiple pets is that each one enjoys different activities. Some love long walks and outdoor adventures while others are happiest with a game at home and a cosy nap afterwards. Learning what your pet enjoys and making time for it is one of the best ways to support their happiness.

Give Them Plenty of Love 🐾❤️

One thing all of our pets have in common is that they simply want to be included. Whether we are designing new products for Pupr, packing orders or relaxing with family they always seem to find a way to be part of whatever we are doing. Pets thrive on connection and companionship and often it is our presence that matters most to them. Bourbon shows his love by being in the main frame whenever we take photos whether it be Pupr products photo or a family photo. This is his way of being included. A gentle pat, a kind word or simply sitting together can mean more than we realise. Want to strengthen your bond even further? Don't Forget Their Health 🐾❤️

The most important thing to remember is that a healthy pet is a happy pet. Nutritious food, regular grooming, veterinary check-ups and preventative care all play an important role in your pet's overall wellbeing. We have learned to pay attention to small changes in behaviour, appetite or energy levels. Sometimes what seems like a minor change can be your pet's way of telling you they need a little extra care. So an important tip is to do regular checks while patting your dog or cat or brushing them carefully so you could notice the tiniest of scar or scratch or skin issue.

The Secret to a Happy Pet 🐾❤️

One thing that our team of fur babies Simba, Leo, Oreo, Bourbon, Thea, Lucy, Toby and Alpha have taught us is that happiness is often found in the simplest moments spent together. A comfy dog bed with lovely fluffy blanket, a favourite toy, a walk with their favourite person, a sunny spot for an afternoon nap, a cuddle before bedtime after a quick brush and paw clean all these add to happiness but most important for them is feeling loved, feeling included and feeling safe, feeling as part of the family. And this feeling every pet parent can provide to their pets every single day.
